Yesterday, our speakers at the Sustainability Symposium raised awareness for this important topic and provided inspiring insights into promoting sustainability in scientific research.
A big thank you to all our speakers – Prof. Sebastian Seiffert (SFB1552, JGU Mainz), Prof. Nico Bruns (Technical University of Darmstadt), Dr. Ilka Paulus (German Research Foundation (DFG)), Charlotte Criscuolo (My Green Lab), and Lousia Mosmann (SUNNY, JGU Mainz) – for sharing their experiences and best practices for reducing the carbon footprint in research, as well as for providing insight into measures taken at JGU and how students are being made aware of the issue.
At SFB1552, we are already trying to make a contribution by avoiding flights wherever possible and by holding our seminar series in a hybrid or even purely online format. We would be delighted and would gladly support it if, encouraged by the symposium, groups within SFB1552 also moved towards sustainable certification.
Through joint efforts, we can drive significant change towards a more sustainable future in research. With this in mind, we would also like to express our gratitude to the supporting networks SFB1551, SFB1361, GenEvo, and 4R-RTG.
