The integrated research training group “Defects to Effects Engineering in Materials Sciences” (DEEMS)  provides a joint structured graduate education in the area of defect engineering in soft materials science for all students in the Collaborative Research Center (CRC).

Within DEEMS we pursue three goals:

(i) To provide  young researchers with the interdisciplinary background required for the research activities in the CRC, and for a career in the area of (soft) materials development.
(ii)  To ensure common standards in the education of all graduate students in the CRC.
(iii) To establish and strengthen links within the CRC already at the level of graduate students and post-docs.

All graduate students in the CRC will be members of DEEMS.
